Clad Metal Plates

      A clad metal plate is an integrate plate combining one base metal such as carbon steel or stainless steel, and one cover metal such as stainless steel, copper, nickel alloy, or titanium alloy. The base metals are of economic superior and strength reliable materials, while the cover metals act as barriers against chemical, thermal or wear attacks, or as conductors of heat or electricity. Thanking to the technology development in last decades, a great quantity of large sized clad metal plates can readily and economically produced, making it possible nowadays that the clad steel and alloy plate is a cost effective and common solution for many industrial applications.

    The commonly used production processes are two: explosion welded cladding and hot rolling.
Explosion Welded Clad Plates
     Explosion impact on a cover metal plate which is placed on top of a base metal can plasticize the surfaces of both metals, resulting in intimate contact sufficient to create a welded and waved bond. Due to the process nature, thick plates with high alloy clad are typical products.
Hot Rolled Clad Plates
     In this process, a pair of metal plates are first prepared, stacked and heated, then bonded together by primary, secondary hot rolling and cold rolling. High temperature and deformation ratio can result penetration of two metals at their interface. Commonly carbon steel or low alloy steel are clad with stainless steel are rolled together as large size compound plates or sheets in this method.

Mechanical Properties
     Taking carbon steel and stainless steel as an example, the shear strength in standard specification is 210 MPa as minimum, yield strength is corresponded to base metal and cover metal selected. The clad stainless steel plates have excellent weldability and machinability.
Numerous examples can be found, in addition to the followings: 
-          Petroleum refinery: vacuum vessels, dilution vessels, heat exchangers
-          Chemical plants: reactors, settlers, agitators, precipitators
-          Desalinization plants:desalinization tanks
-          Pulp and paper mills: Dyeing tank, tower scrubber, autoclaves
-          Salt fields: evaporators
-          Power plants: desalt vessels, stacks, condensers,
-          Marin and shipyards: ships, LPG vessels, boats
-          Mining and metallurgical plants: drums, ducts, coal gas tanks, electric conduct pieces
-          Construction: concrete molds, waterway gates.
